Portland Marathon Festival of Family Events

On October 7, at least 11 people combined their Portland Marathon efforts with a hospice pledge drive. Members of the 2007 Hospice Marathon Team included Barbara Bingham, Stephanie Bosze, Annmarie Bruning, Oakley Day, Robert Frary, Jay Howe, Tara Lauersdorf, John McCall, Marcie Morton, Rita Petersen and Kristin Weatherford. Many of the Team competed in their first-ever marathon, several Team members are Hospice Marathon veterans. They did a wonderful job raising hospice awareness and hospice dollars this year and we're very proud of them!

Thanks to the Team's support, your support and help from Benefit Partners, LLC, Active Giving, Portland Marathon, Bergmann Design Studio and Nike, we can continue to ensure and promote access to high quality hospice and comfort care for all Oregonians. Thank you!

Since 1996, close to 100 people have dedicated their marathon efforts to raising awareness and dollars for Hospice and the Oregon Hospice Association. "Women Walk the Marathon" is responsible for recruiting many of these athletes, and, most recently, Active Giving and Charity Connect.   Over $300,000 has been raised for Hospice at the Portland Marathon last 11 years. Members of the "Hospice Marathon Team" walk and run in honor and memory of friends and loved ones, including long-time marathoner and Hospice benefactor Bernie Reed (pictured with OHA Resource Development Director Meg McCauley). Sadly, Bernie died in July 2000. Bernie made it possible for OHA to raise hospice awareness and dollars at the Portland Marathon. His name is proudly displayed on the commemorative marathon t-shirt, listing the names of those who are living and those who are dearly missed.
